The First Step is Done *September 29, 2022
Today I actually did it - I submitted my registration for the course at the folk high school and ordered the books. Now I'm sitting here and feeling doubt spreading through me. Was this really a good idea? My fingers keep wandering back to the mouse, as if they want to cancel the order.
It's funny, really: For months I've been dreaming about learning something new, furthering my education, breaking out of my daily routine. I imagined how enriching it would be to sit in a classroom again - this time completely voluntarily and on my own initiative. And now that I've taken the first step, that little annoying voice in my head pipes up: "Are you sure? Do you even have time for this? What if you can't pull it off?"
Maybe it's this very uncertainty that shows I'm on the right path. After all, when do we grow the most? Exactly when we step outside our comfort zone. If I'm honest with myself, I know deep down that I would regret it if I didn't at least try.
The books will arrive soon, and the course starts in a few weeks. By then, hopefully this nervousness will have turned into anticipation. And who knows? Maybe in a year I'll be sitting here smiling at my initial doubts.
For today, I'm making a point of being proud that I had the courage to take this step. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge. And hey - I couldn't swim at the beginning either.
