Happy New Year and Take Care of Each Other
January 1st, 2026
It's been two years now since we came to Denmark. The first year was honestly not always easy—it had more lows than highs.
But in the second year, so much has changed. Things have become easier, more familiar, and above all, so many things are no longer as difficult.
We've accomplished incredibly much. We've integrated ourselves, and for the past year we've been part of the local choir and we really feel at home there. Michael has worked as a vicar in our three churches, as an organist, not as a pastor, and as of January 1st, 2026, he has his own permanent position. I myself have completed my training as a tour guide, which was a major challenge because it was conducted entirely in Danish.
My Danish has grown over time, step by step. Once I passed the exam, a new chapter began. And suddenly, you really feel like you've arrived when you're working here and have found your place.
We take advantage of the beautiful weather for long walks in the forest and on the beach, and during the dark season we enjoy many cozy hours at home. And yet, there's always something going on, always something to look forward to. The Danes have quite a bit of energy, and I have the feeling that we're out and about more here than we were before in Germany. Less time for ourselves, but in exchange, much more quality time and far greater coziness.
On New Year's Eve, we ate homemade kransekage for the first time and listened to the moving words of our king. These Danish traditions have now become quite natural to us and very precious.
Throughout the year, we've made new friendships, adapted ourselves, and at the same time stayed in touch with old friends who visited us here in the far north.
Some things were challenging, some things came to us almost naturally. Of course, there are things from our former life that we miss. And yet, there is so much that more than makes up for it.
Moving here was the right step for us.
We are happy. This country suits us.
We feel welcomed here, accepted, and supported by this community.
In closing, we wish all our loved ones, our family and friends, as well as everyone who follows my blog a happy new year with health, happiness, confidence, and everything that comes with it.
Thanks for everything, and here's to a wonderful new year! Cheers to the new year!
