Classic Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
For the yeast dough: •500 g wheat flour •70 g sugar •1 pinch of salt •1 cube fresh yeast (42 g) or 1 packet dried yeast •250 ml lukewarm milk •80 g soft butter •1 egg
For the cinnamon filling: •80 g soft butter •100 g brown sugar •2 tbsp cinnamon
Optional: For the glaze: •100 g powdered sugar •1-2 tbsp lemon juice or milk
Instructions
1. Prepare the yeast dough: •Heat the milk until lukewarm. Dissolve the yeast in it. •Add flour, sugar, salt, egg, and butter to a large bowl. Add the yeast milk and knead everything into a smooth dough (about 8-10 minutes). •Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 60 minutes until it has doubled in size.
2. Prepare the filling: •Stir butter, sugar, and cinnamon together in a bowl until you have a spreadable mixture.
3. Shape the rolls: •Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 40×30 cm). •Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over it. •Roll up the dough from the long side and cut into about 12 pieces. •Place the rolls with some space between them in a greased or parchment-lined baking dish (such as a casserole dish or baking sheet). •Let them rise again for 20-30 minutes.
4. Baking: •Preheat the oven to 180 °C (top and bottom heat). •Bake the cinnamon rolls for about 20-25 minutes until they're golden brown.
5. Glaze: •Stir powdered sugar with lemon juice or milk. •Drizzle over the still-warm rolls.
Tip: You can also make the cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, just like in various other Danish recipes.
Happy baking and enjoy!
