A Visit of Deep Familiarity

On the decision to pause language school, and a precious visit from longtime friends in Skagen.

A Visit of Deep Familiarity May 8, 2025

My everyday life has become so full that I've decided to stop going to language school.

It wasn't an easy decision, but it was necessary. I simply have too much on my plate - professionally, physically, emotionally.

The tooth pain has been a constant companion for weeks now. It drains my energy, steals my sleep, and yet I still need to function here in Skagen. I've taken on responsibility there, tasks that require my focus.

Adding school to everything else eventually just became impossible. I tried for a long time, I really wanted to make it work - but now I know: I can't do it anymore. It's too much.

I hope that eventually a way forward will emerge. But for now, I need to take care of myself. And sometimes that means letting go of things that would normally matter - but that just don't fit right now.

On May 3rd, Judith and Erich arrived at our place - and yesterday they left again.

It was such a lovely time. Judith is one of my oldest friends; we've known each other for almost 40 years. This kind of friendship is something special - there's no need for long explanations, no need to fill every moment with activities. There's simply a deep mutual understanding.

I had to work two days while they were here, but that was completely uncomplicated. When you've known each other that long, it's no problem at all if you're not present every single moment. Judith and Erich were perfectly content entertaining themselves - they took little excursions, read, enjoyed the surroundings.

And they understood completely that I - after spending so many days explaining and showing tourists the sights - simply don't feel like doing the same thing again in my free time.

It was a quiet, beautiful, honest time. And I'm grateful to have such people in my life.

This kind of friendship is something special - there's no need for long explanations, no need to fill every moment with activities.
