Holiday Planning and First Steps Towards Denmark

The family has booked their summer holiday in Denmark and plans to stay in a cabin at a campsite near Løkken. Michael is coordinating viewing appointments for selected houses, while the family is intensively searching for a home and learning about issues like radon.

Finally, it's happening - we've booked our summer holiday! Since we're traveling with our two four-legged friends and Maya, due to her age, can no longer climb stairs very well (and often needs to go outside quickly), we decided on a practical solution: a cozy cabin at a campsite near Løkken. The pictures of the campsite and cabins look really promising. The booking is already confirmed and paid - our first step is taken!

Michael has now taken on the important task of coordinating the viewing appointments for our selected houses with the estate agents. Unfortunately, we found out two days ago that our absolute favorite house has already been sold. That hit me a bit. It was simply perfect: a small pool, a wonderful sauna, and even a separate guest house. The funny thing was that the furnishings could have been taken over - we even discovered the same sofa and some other identical pieces of furniture. Maybe that's why I liked it so much.

Our travel plans are also set: We're leaving on the morning of June 21st. The evening before, we're still celebrating an early St. John's Eve with our friends from the adult education center and Dorte. The bus will already be all packed. We're driving in our little blue Fiat, and we're planning to arrive on the morning of the 22nd and move into our cabin. A little dream is coming true - we finally get to spend the night in our wonderful bus!

We're particularly looking forward to St. John's Eve. After everything we've heard and read about it, it will be a special experience to witness it live for the first time. Together with the locals, we'll sing the song that Holger Bachmann composed in 1853 - "We Love Our Land". Such a beautiful song that I've been practicing diligently, mostly with headphones during dog walks in the forest, where no one could hear me...

But until then, there's still quite a bit to do. We need to keep regularly browsing through boligsiden.dk. This Danish real estate website is really practical because you can see on a map where the houses are located.

During my research, I've also been intensively looking into the topic of radon and learned that it occurs everywhere, not just in Denmark. Fortunately, you can protect yourself against it - best with a concrete foundation slab that prevents the gas from entering. It's also reassuring to know that there are areas where the radon risk is very low.

The anticipation grows with each day. Now it's just a matter of: holding on and keep planning!
